Great grandma - COMPLETED
« on: Sunday 23 November 08 16:05 GMT (UK) »
I'd be most grateful if somebody could improve this photo for me.  The original has disappeared - just left with this scan.

Thanks to Mudge, Rog & Aislin for improving it.

Does anyone have an idea of the date? - it should be around the 1870's

Thanks
Ian

As you say, Rog, not a lot to work with.  However, you've all improved it very much.

I'm going to be cheeky now, and see if anyone can give me a clue to the date

Thank you very much
Ian

I know nothing about women's fashions being a denim and sweater kind of girl.  But if I were to hazard a guess, I would say she looks about the same era as my Great Grandmother Agnes c. 1895 (ish)

Hi Ian...this lady is wearing very classic 1870s fashion. The style of the skirt, the collar, the cuffs and the hairstyle is pure 1870s. Also the pose....early to mid 1870s.

Is there anything printed on the back? A lovely photo and you are lucky to have one from the 1870s!

Cheers,

The hairstyle, the layered skirt, the pose and the furniture all suggest the 1870s  :)

Oh, snap!  China!
