Hi

this is a bit tricky. The North Wales BMD lists in all 100 William Hughes marrying 1881-1891, including 15 in Montgomeryshire and 12 in that part of  Flintshire.

Have you got any other information at all  - for example who was the informant on his death cert.

Hi Gadget,

Yes I know what you mean about the possible combinations with William Hughes, thats why I thought I might try a posting to see if I could get another idea.

Re his death I don't have a death certificate, I got the information from a web page relating to the village of Derwenlas

Powell - Lancashire - Breconshire
Beard - Cheshire - Derbyshire

If you go to:

http://www.northwalesbmd.org.uk/marriages.html

And select 1881-1891 (hold down the shift key to select the range) and then enter William Hughes in the search box, with or without Montgomeryshire/Flintshire districts, you'll get a full listing. You can click on them to match possible spouses.

Flintshire and Montgomeryshire are fully covered by the NW BMD. Note that the refs are local ones. You'd have to go to FreeBMD for the GRO ref.

The alternative would be to see if there is a gravestone for him. It might mention his wife. Also, a local newspaper report of his death/obituary might include her name.

Not sure what the local newspapers were then. I'll go and check  :)

I have a William Hughes (schoolmaster) lodging with my family in 1901. Although he's not related, I sought him out in previous censuses and I had made the connection with the same William Hughes you found in Derwenlas (1891) and Leeswood (1881).

Clearly my William Hughes hadn't died in 1891, so I'd be interested in your information on this point, to see whether or not we're referring to one and the same person.

Sorry for the delay in answering your post.

Since my original posting on 23 November/2008  I have found out that I have no connection to this William Hughes.

Thanks for your interest
