« on: Tuesday 25 November 08 08:31 GMT (UK) »
Hi all

My name is Roanne Vallance. I am trying to get some information on my Family - originally from scotland.
My grandparents along with my father emigrated form scotland to South Africa in the late 40s.
My grandfather's parents are Thomas Vallance and Catherine nee Mcgregor. My Grandfather (George McGregor Vallance) was born 1910 Jan 1.
Everone has passed on including my dad and his sister Jane. My dad - George Roy Vallance was born in Stirling. I think my grandad is from Alloa - or something like that!!!
Looking forward to hearing from you!!

The best place to start will be:
http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/
You should hopefully be able to find the marriage of Thomas and Catherine here and purchase their marriage certificate.  With any luck, that will give you enough information to start looking for them in the censuses.

Another site:
http://www.findmypast.com/passengerListPersonSearchStart.action
in 1946, heading from Southampton to South Africa, G. M. Vallance b. 1910
there's also a possible C. Vallance, b. 1882 went to SA in 1955.

Hi Roanne,

I haven't been on rootschat.com for some  time but I believe we are related.  Your father Roy and aunt Jane and I are first cousins.  If you read this post, please come back to me as I have researched our family of Vallance  back to 1713.  Your grandfather George Vallance was the 2nd youngest of 4 boys and was born in 1910 in Meigle, Perthshire, Scotland.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Douglas

Hello Roanne,
Found your messages on Rootschat.com about the Vallance family.my interest in the family comes from Catherine Mcgregor born 1877 who married Thomas vallance .Catherine being the daughter of Robert Mcgregor and Ann Gall, and Robert was the brother to my Great grandfather Peter mcGregor.my great grandfather Peter and his wife and children immigrated to Queensland ,Australia in 1862.As i have been researching my family tree for a number of years and have a little information on the Vallance family and a lot on the Mcgregor family .I do have a photo of Thomas Vallance and his wife Catherine Mcgregor and their children.Would love to hear from you .
