Albany, NY - birth and death records late 1870s
« on: Tuesday 25 November 08 15:26 GMT (UK) »
Hi all  :)

I wonder if anyone could help, please.

I'm trying to locate a birth (circa 1878) and death record (December 1877). Are there any online resources for this time or am I wishful thinking  :-\

I do have access to ancestry.com but can't see anything listed at the moment.

Thanks

I don't think there's anything online that lists everyone who was born/died in Albany.  Most of New York State didn't start statewide registration until the 1880's, but if the events definitely happenend in Albany, they have records dating back to 1870:  http://www.albanyny.gov/Government/Departments/VitalStatistics/Genealogy.aspx

Thanks for that information  :)

It seems to conflict - on the initial link it says that birth and death records begin in 1870 and then on the linked pdf file  it says that they hold death records for 1880-1947  :-\

It's probably because they use the form from the state department of health, and, with a few exceptions, that's the time frame that's available for New York state.
