Looks like they should be on 1891 census somewhere doesnt it - if the married over here in 1890

Bit confused as to why in original post you said their arrival was 1890 onwards (hence I tried to narrow it down) if you already had the marriage cert over here, in 1890 - that indicates they arrived before 1890 - doesnt it?

Will look again for 1891, or someone else may find it.
And, presumably 1881 etc to narrow down arrival date.

Yes - I found the Louis birth for you 5 posts ago! (looks like you had that too!)
Edmonds/Edmunds - mainly Sussex
DeBoo - London
Green - Suffolk
Parker - Sussex
Kemp - Essex
Farrington - Essex
Boniface - West Sussex

Hi lizdb
so sorry for the mix up. I'm getting all confused, please accept my apologies.
Is it possible to check immigrants passenger list? which may yield more info.
Thanks lizdb

No probs.

I did look on the incoming passengers thingy, but saw nothing that leapt out as being them.
But that seems to be mainly from other continents, not Europe

Did I see that Elizabeth was born Ireland?
They could have been over there visiting her family in 1891?

Was told by family that Elizabeth was Irish, that was when I found Elizabeth (Hanon/Hannen) not Hammons. Think Elizabeth is down on 1901 census as coming from Ireland
also seems to be a Goodstein, MERRIS on passenger list on Ancestry, but now way of checking.
Thanks lizdb

Harris was the common anglicization for the Yiddish name Hirsh meaning a stag or hart; in modern German the word is Hirsch.

Hirsh is a loan translation - a calque - for the Hebrew name Tsvi which also means a stag.

For me that leaves little doubt that Morris Gutstein / Goodstein was born to Jewish parents. Unfortunately, it doesn't help determine his place of birth. I'll search a few databases.

You can search for naturalization records on the National Archives website.
