waterside infirmary
« on: Wednesday 26 November 08 13:52 GMT (UK) »
Hi
Can anyone tell me where the old hospital record of the waterside infirmary would have went after it closed, also in what year was the old age pension introduced.

Not sure where old hospital records would be (do you mean the Workhouse?) but perhaps PRONI.

Old age pension came into effect in 1909. More details here:

Hi
I assumes the Workhouse became Waterside hosp or Fever hosp.
My problem is I have a great grandfather who was recorded as 70yrs old on the 1901 census but aged 60 when he died in hospital.
Cant use pension records to verify this as he died before it started.
So was hoping maybe old hospital records might have helped me to verify his age then his birth.
What is done with any old hospital records.

The hospital records could be incorrect. Do you have his death certificate?
I know that PRONI has some old workhouse records so it might not be a bad idea to email them when they reopen after their annual stocktaking to see if they have anything for the place and period you're looking for.

Hi
Yep  death cert says 60 info from City Cemetery says 60 census says 70.
This makes him to young to connect to other members of the family.
The plot thickens.
Will wait till Proni opens and go digging again.
Thanks

City Cemetery records are fantastic- did you get details like names of his parents and his birthplace from their records?
