Hi
The only reason as a Moderator I am moving posts to completed is so that in the vast mass of those other posts that nobody has answered or yet found the answer for are now become more easily accessible. For all the posts I move I stop to try and answer many of these other languishing posts, in the process bringing them back up to the front of the boards for others to peruse as well.
The moved notice in the system is there to alert the original poster that the post is being moved. If there is any objection (which so far there hasn't been) the post can be put back on the Look up request or main board.
If I'm not sure, and the Rootschatter is a current member, I ask if the topic is now completed and the poster than gives me the go ahead to move it.
The London and Middlesex board alone has 59 pages of topics, so quite a daunting task to try and help those posters who are still current and interested in a reply to their topic - stuck for instance somewhere on page 18, many pages behind many of the posts which have now been answered, though page 18 still only has topics posted from this year. How many other posters unless they are googling (in which case all posts can be found anyway) are trawling back through all these posts to find and further answer such topics?
I think everyone who is currently or recently still posting on Rootschat should feel they have an equal chance of having someone look at their posts and help them.
Obviously reading all the posts and replying to many of them is a time consuming process, so doing this sort of housekeeping on very large and popular boards that have had no designated Moderator for sometime, if ever, is quite a time consuming activity, but I hope for the minor inconvenience it may cause some Rootschatters there is a much greater benefit for those whose topics are now getting the chance to have a fresh airing. Obviously there is quite a backlog to sort with new Moderators taking on the housekeeping on very popular boards so that is why more moved posts have been appearing recently when moderators have the free time to give to the task.
