1861 census - Nathan Raworth Completed thanks to Tati and Suzard
« on: Saturday 29 November 08 12:55 GMT (UK) »
Please help me find Nathan in 1861.
I have him in 1851 with his parents Thomas  and Isabella in Southwell.
I have him in 1871 ( his age is wrong ) with his wife Sarah and son Thomas still in Southwell.
The only one I can find in 1861 is in Nottingham as brother in law to William Farrand but it gives place of birth as Lenton so I think this is the wrong one.

ps. I have confirmed Nathan's birth year as 1843.

thanks for your offer of help.........bigjon

Errr ... confirming Suzard's finds  :P

Hi bigjon,

I wonder if he could be the Matthew Rowarth age 17 at Kirklington  :-\

Then again, I can't find a birth ca. 1843 for him, but there is one in 1839 and Thomas and Isabella do have a son Nathan age 2 in 1841. Nathan is 40 in 1881, 51 in 1891 and 61 in 1901 ...

When you say you have confirmed his birth as 1843 - is that because you have seen this on the IGI (submotted record)
Nathan Raworth
christened 23 Jun 1843
Southwell notts
Parents
Thomas Rowarth
Isabella Ricket

Note -this is not a birth reg -but a christening reg
Sometimes children were not christened until they were older -sometimes more than one child in the family was christened at the same time

Hi Suz and Tati
thanks for helping me out yet again.
I did find both births for Nathan on Freebmd and also the death of the first one.
It seems to me that Nathan b.1839 died in1841 after the census and that they gave the same name to Nathan b.1843  ( Southwell 15 620 )

I wonder if Thomas and Isabella had another son Nathan??

There is this
FreeBMD
Birth reg -previously given Sept 1839 Southwell

Death reg
Nathan Raworth
Sept qtr 1841
Southwell
15 385

Birth reg
nathan Rawarth
Sept qtr 1843
Sept qtr
Southwell
15 6

but then there is a death reg
Nathan Rowarth
age 77
birth c 1839
Dec qtr 1916
Southwell
7b 510

1901 -his birth yr is 1839??????

The nathan you found 1861 in Nottinham I would think is not your nathan, as he appears in Nottm in 1851

What a puzzle??

Do you have any certificates for your Nathan???

I think Tati's find is most probaably him- entered as Matthew

he is an ag lab b Southwell

I can find no births for matthew Raworth around that time

and there isn't another matthew (that I can find) on earlier/later census.

I think it's well done Tati!!!

No certificates yet - have only just started on this thread.
I was wondering if he was called Nat - this could have become Matt and been transcribed as Mathew........... grasping at straws again  ??? ???

With him not being with family -his name could have been given incorrectly to the enumerator?

It does seem a strong possibility for him to be your nathan

My nathan/nathaniels were sometimes documented as "Than"!!!!!!

It keeps us on our toes!!!
