Power/Drohan Waterford county
« on: Sunday 30 November 08 07:43 GMT (UK) »
Does anyone have any information re my grandfather, Patrick Power who migrated first to the USA then to Victoria, Australia via Fiji? His mother was Johanna Drohan, father Patrick Power. I have been told that he came from Dungarvan but that may have been where he caught a ship from. I have also been told he may have come from Clonea in the parish of Rathgormack.
He had 2 sisters who left for the US before he did. He may have been born in 1842. His parents also left Ireland for the US but were allegedly shipwrecked. This information comes from my aunts and father who are now deceased.
Thank you,

Hi,

Do you mean Clonea-Power? I have Power ancestors from that area.

Would like to find a connection with your Powers.

My g.g. grandmother was Mary Power from Kilbrack, Rathgormack. Which is just up the road from Clonea-Power. There are also Power relations in Clonea-Power. Mary would have been born circa 1850. I do not know anything about her parents yet.

Do you have any more details on your Patrick Power?

I'll keep you posted when I get more info.

Thank you for your reply. Yes, I think it may have been Clonea-Power, but certainly Rathgormack. We will be visiting Ireland in Sept. so would love to know of any descendants.

I'll keep my eyes open for any Johanna Drohan and Patrick Power's that I may come across. What were his sister's names?

Not really sure, but one could have been Johanna who went to the USA as he named a daughter here in Australia Johanna and his mother was of the same name. Cheers.

Recently I have discovered that my grandfather, Patrick Power might have been born in Stradbally, co Waterford in 1845. There is one who has a father John Power and mother Johanna Drohan. Does anyone have any connections there?
