Hi I wonder if anyone could help, in the 1901 census my wife's Grandmother was living at Invictor house in Robinson road in the parish of Mitcham, with Richard  Fryer head of house, aged 70 years. also living there were his three daughters, ada aged 40, edith aged 29, and Maud fryer aged 9. also living at the house was Winifred Fryer grandaughter aged 10, I have all the relevant census records for richard Fryer who was a railway station master for most of his life, i have just received a Birth certificate for Maud Adelade Fryer, and as i expected  it does not have a fathers name on the certificate, the birth is correct her birthday was on the 1st of october, she was born in 1892 in the sub district of leather market, in the county of london, it says her mother was Sarah Jane fryer, whom i have no record of on any of the census records, her address at the time of birth was given as 3 stow place, Bermondsey i know its a long shot but could anyone help me find out who Sarah Jane Fryer was.

Are you certain the other Granddaughter was Winifred Fryer - if I'm looking at the correct census it looks like Muriel Fryer age 10 b Clapham ???

do you have this?
1891
RG12 443 131 15
Clapham
Alexander R Fryer 29 Sevenoaks Kent
Sarah F wife 29 Stepney
Florence T Avis Step daughter 9
Muriel Fryer daughter 11mth Clapham
Ellen m Denyer servant 15

It looks like Alexander R was Richards son
and he married Sarah Florence Avis in 1889
Sarah Florence died 1892
Alexander died 1896

I just wondered if sarah J was infact sarah F -and maybe she died during childbirth - but why husband's name was not on birth cert is a question????

Will look for sarah jane's???

Hello :

Having also looked at the 1901   ;)   and found the same as Suz  ;)  I have pieced this together:   What do you think ?

1891
RG12.  P. 443  Fol. 131 Pg. 15

Alexander R Fryer  Head  M  24  Accountant  B. Kent, Sevenoaks
Sarah F  Fryer  Wife  M  29    B.  London, Stepney
Florence Avis  Stepdaughter  9  B.  London, Stepney
Muriel F R Fryer  Dau  11  mth.  B.  London Clapham

Alexander it seems is Richard's son (found on previous censuses)

Alexander Richard Fryer  married Q2. 1889 Wandsworth  Vol. 1d  Pg. 989
Sarah Florence Avis on the same page

Looking at birth regs. for a Maud Fryer in 1892, found :

Maud Alexandra Fryer  Q1. 1892  Wandsworth  Vol. 1d Pg. 723

Also found:
Sarah Florence Fryer died Q1. 1892 Wandsworth  Vol. 1d Pg. 586
and
Alexander Richard Fryer  die Q1. 1896 Wandsworth  Vol 1d. Pg. 403

I think Muriel and Maud were sisters;  their parents having died they were living with grandad and the Aunts.

I think you may have sent for the wrong birth certificate, if this is the correct family  :-\

Hi Suz  yes that is the certificate i sent for, i am now begining to wonder myself if this is the right certificate, also about Richard fryer, from 1861 to the 1881 census he is a railway station master, then in the 1881 census he is a retired station master, and by 1901 he is a grain merchant traveller, on every census his birthplace of daresbury cheshire is correct, he has been hard to follow becuase he has been at a  different address every census, starting out at daresbury, then to norwich, shrewsbury, brixton, then the latter years all around central london areas    glen
