Baptism - Sophia MARJORAM
« on: Sunday 30 November 08 18:06 GMT (UK) »
Hi, I am still seeking info on Sophia Marjoram, 1804 - 1881. She is now thought to
have been born at Fritton, wed Thomas Muddock at Redingfield 1825 and died at
Stowmarket in 1881.
All that might seem very simple, despite the fact that they cannot decide how to
spell her surname, Marjoram, Majoram, Marjerum, Margeram, Margerum, to list
but a few variations.
However, I still cannot find out who were her parents.
I did try to contact the Suffolk lookup volunteers over a week ago, but nobody
seems to have had the time or inclination to reply.

I would be glad of any help offered.

You may need to be patient I'm afraid.  These records are on microfiche, so it is not as simple as putting a CD into the PC. I know of some volunteers who do not own their own viewers and who have to go to their local libraries to be able to lookup. Volunteers also have homes, families and jobs and need to fit in lookups around these commitments as well as their own research. Emails also go astray so it may be worth sending another request in a day or two. If you get no reply to this after a week or so then you should contact Pat Bridges the site owner (email link on site.)  If the volunteer does get in touch, could you let us know please.

Rick :)

Hi Chainsaw

I looked at the Fritton registers for you at the RO today, all transcribed and indexed, but there were no Marjoram (or variants) baptisms around this time at all.

Regards
Anne

Thanks Anne, although it is a pity that nothing could be found, perhaps this is a
blessing in disguise, in that it exposes a false lead.
Still, I thank you most sincerely for the time and effort you have afforded me.

I now must retrace my steps. I have been told that Sophia Marjoram wed one
Thomas Muddock at Redingfield, Suffolk on the 16 February 1825. Assuming this
info is correct, and not yet another false lead, I now have to beg the indulgence of
someone to check the Redingfield marriage registers, in the hope that they might
give a clue as to her age / parentage.

Would that I were mobile myself.

Hi again

I had a quick look at the Redlingfield marriages for you today and can confirm that Sophia did marry there as you thought.

16th February 1825
Thomas Muddock bachelor
Sophia Margeram spinster
Both signed X
Presence of Sarah (Warner?), William Green (both signed their names)

I checked back through Redlingfield baptisms but couldn't find Sophia's baptism there, sorry.

Anne

Thanks very much Anne, that was very kind of you.

At least that bit of the tree I was given is correct, which is a start.

regards,

Chainsaw.
