Lewis N. Cheveaux at 2, Nicholas St. Chester with wife Ann C. in 1881, while the rest of his family are in Brigstock Rd. Croydon.
Louis Jnr. is the 17 year old in his father's household at 293 Albany Rd. in 1851.
The middle child of Louis Nicolas Chauveau and Jane(nee Watkins) is Edward John Chauveau, born 1865 at 40, Great Sutton St.Clerkenwell. Informant of birth on cert. is Jane herself. The only time, up to now, that she can be placed outside Knighton.
What could link a remote Welsh border village and the vast metropolis of London?
Just to throw a little relevant/irrelevant titbit in here, a lodger in the household of Jane Watkins' grandmother in the 1861 census of Knighton is a John Owens, a Goods Agent, of Clerkenwell.
I am still awaiting the marriage cert. of Louis Nicolas Chauveau + Jane Baalham
1866 at St.John Baptist, Shoreditch. Please stay with me until then, your help has been invaluable. Thanks.

Here's a little more, then I have to give up for today!

1891 census

RG12/590/102/7

CHODEAUX
Davis N H M 57 - principal war office - London Southwark
Maria F E W M 37 - London Pimlico
Rose B dau U 28 - Surrey Camberwell
Henry M son 17 - merchant's clerk - Surrey Thornton Heath?
Allan E C son 16 - scholar - do
Harold C son 14 - do - do
Arthur F son 13 - do - do
Nigel C son 2 - do
Frank C son 2 - do
+ 3 servants

Address: 116 Binglook?, Croydon, Surrey

So in 1891 Louis junior has two households full of children!  Not sure, but I think (hope!) some of them are duplicated in the two houses.  Will check tomorrow!

My guess would be that Jane was a servant somewhere along the line and I am kicking myself for not transcribing those in the households as I went along - they are invariably useful!

Kind regards, Arranroots  ;)

There's NO St John Street ( shoreditch) in either the 1861 or 1871 street index.

Great Chart St. is rg9/239 fol 50-68

Was any light thrown on a Louis George Chauveau and Jane Watkins marriage c.1860?

A record of Jane working as a nurse aged 18 in the Rectory at Bedstone nr Knighton is on the 1851 Census

Son George is my Great Grandfather so would like to know more.   There seems to have been a few Louis Nicholas Chauveau or Choveaux's along the way and an enormous amount of offspring!

Thanks
Dan

Hoople, Regarding your original question, I have a bit more information if there's still interest:
Louis Nicholas Chauveau b.1835 at Quarre les Tombes, Yonne, France.
Father, Louis Elisabeth b.1806 at Quarre, d.1862 Asnieres sur Seine.  Mother, Pierrette Boussard b. 1809 at Quarre. Siblings, Marie Louise b.1843, Eugene Marie b.1848
Louis Nicholas married Jane Watkins (b.1832 at Knighton d.1877) at Asnieres where Jane was working as maid.
They had 4 children, my great grandfather Louis George (b.1860 Knighton, d.1935 Liverpool),
Edward John (b.1865 St Johns, London d. 1948 Cardiff), Lucien Eugene (b.1867 Clerkenwell, London d.1867 Paris aged 2 months),
Alfred William (b.1868 Knighton, d.1870). No record of Louis Nicholas death or burial found yet, but the other records are in my Ancestry.com page including marriage record, please contact me for details.
There appears to be a separate dynasty of Louis Nicholas Choveauxs named after each other, continuing to the present day originally from London which muddies the waters. The Jane Baalam marriage may be to one of these.
Cheers, Dan
