I wonder why Eliza didn't name the father as there was nothing prior to 1875 stopping a womna from naming anyone as the father although if married it was taken the child was the husbands.
Illigitmate children were not frowned upon as tales suggest unless they were a burden on the parish releif it seems Eliza made her living  as a dressmaker ahem 

sometimes childern were bp. but not registerd as parents had a misguided belief they could do either
rather than both.

I know i said before but perhaps dropping Plymouth RO a line and asking what PR's they hold for Bere Alston and also where the children were born (whatwas the address on the birth cert?)

If you look at the second image*, I think the "/" is the first stroke of the "B", also the "S"'s are different as they tend to swirl (or loop) top and bottom - if you look at the "S"'s on Summerland St, St Sidwell.
