Ealwood in Lincoln????
« on: Sunday 06 February 05 18:43 GMT (UK) »
Hi, According to the 1851 index for West Sculcoates (an area of Hull, E. Yorks), an ancestor on my wife's side of the family was born in Ealwood, LIN. in about 1809.
Can anyone please tell me if this place still exists or is the name now defunct as I cannot find any trace of it myself.

Hi,

Not sure if that might not be either a transcription error, or the enumerator mis-spelling/mis-hearing the name.

Here is a link to the Lincolnshire parishes, there is no Ealwood listed, but maybe you can see one which might fit.

Hi Sue,  Thank you for your interest and input.
I have already been down the Genuki trail but couldn't see anything worthwhile.
I've also tried Google but most Elwoods seem to be in America.  Possibly the original Hillbillies??
I may try the Yorkshire branch and see if anyone can check the original transcription for me.
Thanks again.
