Roscommon Newspapers
« on: Thursday 11 December 08 14:25 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for what newspapers would have carried a story of a constable being shot in his barracks.  He was originally from Ballymurrary, Roscommon.  I have the newspaper articles from the town he was shot in.  I was hoping to find an article or orbit from his local town.  Would anyone know what newspapers were available for the Ballymurrary area in 1919?  The incident happened on December 26, 1919.  My relative was Wm. James Murtagh.  His father was a stationmaster in Ballisodare.  Any suggests would be most appreciated.
Thank you,
Mary

I'm not sure which paper would cover the Ballymurray area - Roscommon Town, Boyle and Castlerea are close...

the National Library of Ireland in Dublin has some Roscommon based newspapers on Microfilm - see the catalogue at : http://www.nli.ie/en/newspapers-catalogues-and-databases.aspx

I found some possible details in the Times Online ..

newspaper is dated Dec. 29 1919 and seems to cover the findings of a Coroner's Jury. It mentions a Constable Murtagh RIC ... killed in Clonouly police hut.

If you pm me your email address I'll send you the details
