Thomas Hall Coulthard
« on: Thursday 11 December 08 18:30 GMT (UK) »
Could some kind soul please do some research for me.

I am trying to fill out my tree as far as possible and and looking for my 2gt uncle THOMAS HALL COULTHARD b Jarrow, Tyne and Wear 1874/76. I have him and his wife Virtue in the 1901 census in UK and have recently found an entry for Thomas

In memory of
Private THOMAS HALL  COULTHARD
who died on November 27, 1916
Service Number: 142081
Age: 42
Force: Army
Unit: Canadian Infantry (Quebec Regiment)
Division: 73rd Bn.
Husband of Virtue M. Smith (formerly Coulthard), of 41, Alverthorpe St., South Shields, Co. Durham, England.

I'm basically looking to see when he went to Canada and if Virtue went with him and anything else that may be availible.

Thanks in advance

Hi KBG,

Here are his attestation papers when he signed up.  He gives his next of kin as Mrs. TH Coulthard with an address in England.

Hi KarenM

Thanks for this.

I wonder where the Canada connection came from? Ah well, I shall keep digging.

Thanks again

Perhaps he came over to Canada first to look for work and get a place, then he would send for his wife eventually, but war broke out so he signed up?

http://www.findmypast.com/passengerListPersonSearchStart.action
 shows a V M Coulthard (female, b. 1878), who arrived in Canada in 1912 (possibly with a child Gladys, b. 1908).

Perhaps someone can find them returning to the UK around 1914/1915.
