Can't find my GG Grandma's birth anywhere
« on: Saturday 13 December 08 22:58 GMT (UK) »
Just new to tracing my family tree and I have drawn a blank finding my gg grandma. I wonder if anyone can give me any idea's as to where I could look to find her, I can find her m/d but not here birth.  I've checked all the usual places that you would look like the OPR, Ancestry, Scot people etc but no joy. Her name is Letitia Smith Hamilton she was born in abt 1830ish Kilsyth Stirlingshire died in 1901 mar to James Robertson Sept 1850 dau of John Hamilton and Catherine Morrison all from Kilsyth.
Can anyone help
Many thanks.

Hi Talia

Does the names of her parents come from her death record (who informed of that information?)

The parents married 1818 Kilsyth (IGI Submitted).

Births (all Kilsyth)  to those parent names on IGI (all extracted except Janet)
William 1814 (this may indicate the parents married a bit earlier than 1818)
Elizabeth 1822
Janet 1825
John 1827
James 1830

Do you have Letitia on any census?

Cheers

Hi AMBLY, thank you for replying.

I got the information about her parents from her death cert and the informant was her son James Robertson.

Re her siblings, I managed to trace them all except William on the OPRs, (thanks for that I now have another gg uncle that I didn't know about) which does suggest that they were married before 1818I

Think I have located her on the 1851 census as Felitia/Selitia, 1861 as Letitia, 1881 as Latitia, 1891 as Litrilia (all under her married name Robertson).

Thank you for taking the time to root out the above for me it was very kind of you.

Hi AMBLY, thanks for the welcome.  I have to say this is a great site especially for people like me (only been researching for 3wks) who are still new to it all. What started off as simply curiosity has now become and addiction!!!!

I searched it and found her, thank you.  I guess when I've been doing this bit longer I'll get to know more sites to search.  Your help is much appreciated.

Cheers

Hi Talia,
When I saw your post on James ROBERTSON & Jean GOODWIN I did a bit of a squeal :). They had a daughter Elizabeth who was born 10th June 1827. I believe my Elizabeth is a sister to your James ROBERTSON. My Elizabeth MARRIED James LUMSDEN/LUMSDAINE.

The family immigrated to Australia, and I have some photos and research material.

I don't even know if you still check your emails here but I look forward to hearing from you
Regards Leanne
