Catherine Johnson 1881 Census

Hi All

This time I'm trying to find Catherine Johnson nee Ray in Hull on the 1881 Census. I am led to believe she was born 1812 in Scarborough and died in 1889. I have her in the 51, 61 and 71 but need to check she was in fact still alive for the 81. I can't find her on the 1891 either so that bit would tie in.

Could someone maybe cast an extra set of eyes over the 81 for me?

Can you give us the ref (or full details) for 1871, so we can see more about her? (eg hubby's name, children etc)
and for 1861 might help too?

Possible BMD info. (I searched for Catherine Johnson b. 1807–1817, death in Yorkshire. This was the only death in 1889 and the only one in Hull district.)

Searching on Cath* Johnson b. 1807–1817, living in Yorkshire, gives four results on Ancestry. None are living in Hull.

• One is a patient in Leeds, born Hull c. 1808, unmarried.
• One is living in Beverley St. Mary, which is about 9 mi inland from Hull., born Cranswick c. 1813. Described as a farmer's widow.
• One is living in Withernwick, also about 9 mi from Hull, born Arnoll c. 1811. Married to Robert. Her name on the census form is Cathernia.
• The fourth is living in Wintersett, about an hour from Hull.

Let me know if you'd like more details on any of these.

A search for Cath* Johnson b. 1807–1817 in Scar* returned no results.

Have you tried the LDS http://www.familysearch.org/eng/default.asp  Sometimes it is easier to search there as they produce alternate spellings.

There is a Catherine Johnstone, widow, born 1808 Scarbro living in Sculcoates, York
York is their shortened version of Yorkshire

I was about to post her details from 1871 when I managed to do some slightly lateral thinking.

I had looked at the LDS at Sylviaann's suggestion but couldn't find her. I then went to ance***y and re searched the 1881 using the Johnstone spelling. Still no luck but after scrolling through about 5 pages I found her as Johnston

I know it is her because believe it or not she is living at the same address. I couldn't read it to search for but once you know what it actually is.....
