1841 Census Lookup Wrexham **COMPLETED**
« on: Monday 15 December 08 00:16 GMT (UK) »
Would someone be able to look up the 1841 census records for Wrexham for John and Susannah Williams (and newborn daughter Ann).

John Williams and Susannah Jones were married October 3, 1837 in the Parish Church in Wrexham.

Their son, Edwin was born May 7, 1848 at Brookside Wrexham.

The family is listed in the 1851 census at 22 Brook St, Wrexham Regis. Both John and Susannah are listed as 39 years old in the 1851 census (birth year will be approx 1812).

 :) Many Thanks in advance.

Hi bdaussie

Bad News:  :'(
By & large, the 1841 for Wrexham is lost/missing - not just in transcripts & images on A*cest**ry and the like  but rather, completely  lost.

Good News:   ;D
Two of the missing books of the  Wrexham town census were  found in a junk shop!   Wrexham Regis was in one of those found books.

The transcripts of the found books was done by the CLWYD FAMILY HISTORY SOCIETY and available for purchase on CD from the society.  :)
They are not available elsewhere.  :-\

Also noting - daughter Ann was 11 in 1851 - so would she not be a little older than "newborn" in 1841?

Cheers

Thanks for both the quick replies.  I know the Wrexham 1841 Census records are not generally available.  I was hoping someone would have access to them though.

John Williams was a Stone Mason (so was his father).

:) Thanks again for the quick response.  Looks like the family was living at the same address as in 1851.

The one interesting piece of information is that the 1841 Census has John Williams being born "in county", yet the 1851 Census says he was born in England.  Does anyone have any explanation for this - apart from one of them being incorrect?  John was born about 1812 and his father was Thomas Williams.

Have you got them in 1861, I tried to use Edwin b 1848 as a clue, but can`t find them.

This looks like Edwin in 1881

Yes, I do have a copy of the 1881 Census you have listed.  The family is actually living in Higher Dinting, Derbyshire.  I was not able to find Census records for 1861 or 1871.

Edwin Williams was my great grandfather.  His father-in-law, James Mather, who is listed on the 1881 census with the family, died at the end of 1881 and the family emigrated to Australia in 1882.
