Trying a new tack - the Crouch Family of Catsfield
« on: Monday 15 December 08 09:09 GMT (UK) »
While I was trying to nut out the William Delves (Rector of Catsfield) problem ... I received a new contact from GR, who believes that Henry Crouch and his wife Sarah (nee Smith - married St Laurence's church, Catsfield 1819) not only had three daughters - Charlotte, b. abt 1820-21, Caroline, b. abt 1824, and Matilda, b. abt 1825 - ... but also a son, William, b. abt 1827-28.

Unfortunately, I don't presently have access to A******, where I had previously found records of the Crouch family's arrival in Australia in early 1840.  If not for this, I would not have known about Matilda ... and I wasn't looking for a son at the time, so obviously I didn't find him.

Can anyone find any records to confirm whether Henry and Sarah had a son William, who emigrated with them to Australia?  I've tried looking on www.mariners.records.nsw.gov.au - but they don't yet have records for arrivals this early.

Any help would be appreciated  ???
I live in Sydney, Australia, and I'm researching: Powell, Tatham, Dunbar, Dixon, Mackwood, Kinnear, Mitchell, Morgan, Delves, & Anderson

Hi Deb

I can confirm that William Crouch, son of Henry and Sarah was baptised on 20 January 1828 at Catsfield.

Hi Deb,
Was it the "James Patterson" they came out on in February 1840.?
There is a son William 13 and looks like another son possibly Nathan aged 3.
Regards
Mariac

Blimey you're all AMAZING!  Thank you so much!

Yes, mariac, it was the "James Patterson/Pattison" ...  also on that ship was John Delves, who married first Charlotte, and then Caroline (after Charlotte died).

Kerry, did you find the baptism in the parish registers?  I only have access to the marriages for Catsfield - not helpful, in this situation.  And thanks ShaunJ, I'll take another look at the IGI now I have names to go by.

Wow - this is almost like a Christmas pressie!

I can't find a Mary on those baptism records to Henry and Sarah.

There is one baptised 1830 in Catsfield to Isaac and Anne Crouch.
