This one is going to be difficult
One of my ancestors, bless him, was Walter JONES. Unfortunately, said Walter does not want to let me know his pedigree. According to the census, he was born anywhere between 1805 and 1821 in Mydrim (possibly Llanwinio, but most likely Mydrim) civil parish Llanfihangel Abercowin (incompasses St Clears and Carmarthen) Carmarthenshire, Wales. His father, according to his marriage certificate, was Theophilus JONES, a labourer. I know nothing else about Theophilus.
Since it is before the start of birth certificates, perhaps the only way of finding him is baptism/christening? His descendants became Wesleyan Methodists, but I don't know about him.
If it helps- the censuses:
1841, living in Llanwinio, dob 1811, married to Anne c1797
1851, Llanwinio, dob 1805, still married to Anne
1861, Llanwinio, dob 1811, widower.
1871, Llanwinio, 1813, married to Elizabeth GRIFFITHS c1826
1881, Llanwinio, 1821, still married
1886, died in Llanwinio, dob from age 1808, marriage status unknown.
If it helps, his first born daughter (by Anne) was called Mary and she herself had an illegitimate daughter called Esther. His children by Elizabeth were Theophilus, Anne and Anne.
I can't find him anywhere and I'm right over the east side of England, so I can't get to Carmarthenshire myself for a look up. I thought I couldn't lose anything by asking if anyone could help with this tricky beggar.
Thanks x
