Question is, why did JOhn and Eliza wait so long to get married?

   Well I know of a couple who had 10 children and only married in 1902 when by now the eldest had left home. The last child was registered under fathers surname the other 9 under mothers.

Was that a question of finances/when they could get round to it or someother reason?  I'm not trying to rake up dirt, just genuinely interested in the reasons why or why not someone might get married outside of what you might call the 'normal' timeslot
