The Scarcliffe poachers! It will be recollected that one of these men, George Cutts,
on being taken at Bolsover, speedily after the dectection of this night poaching, made
 such disclosures against the others as led to their apprehension and was, on the after
 committals, addmited as a witness against his associates. At the assizes he was, along
 with the rest, put upon his trial and sentenced to two years imprisonment. Captain Salmond,
the magistrate who, on committal, received Cutts as evidence for the crown, viewing all the
circumstances in connections with the case, considering the ought not to remain in prison
 and having bestowed much trouble to procure his release, has at lenght succeeded and put him into employment in one of his coal mines.
