GG Grandmother has her number of children listed. Her husband died the year before the census. However I expect that the chap in charge of the institution was unlikely to have asked each woman there how many children she'd had.

And I am so disappointed, found my Grandad after 10 years of looking only to find that he is in an institution in Bucklow Cheshire, that's ok it confirmed a family rumour, but there is no indication WHICH **** institution, so does anyone know of any institutions in bucklow where an 11 year old and his sister age 8 would be accommodated. I really cannot afford to search all 19 pages of originals looking for an address, he is on page 16.
Sorry whinge over.... :-[
Happy hunting and if anyone has any ideas???
Cheers Jo

Hi Gadget
Thanks for a quick reply  :D and yes it does look likely, doesn't it? Cheshire RO have an admissions list and inmates list so I shall see if they can confirm it.
Thanks again
Jo ::)

Still no luck finding my grandfather and his parents, couldnt find them on the 1901 either. Will they let us search by first name only eventually? If anyone wants to try some variations, here are the details. I have had success with a lot of others so I am pleased

Arthur Edward ESPLEY b 1877 Chell, Staffordshire
Emma Esther nee Bowker b 1875 in Gorton, Lancashire
Arthur Edward b 1899 in Gorton Lancashire
James Henry (my grandad) b 1900 Lichfield Staffordshire
William Ernest b 1901 Gorton Lancashire

I found Arthurs mother Ellen H Espley living in Staffordshire same place as she was in 1901
Chatterton - Stockport, Espley - Newcastle -u-Lyme, Pashley - Worksop,Nottingham, Fox - Burslem, Faulkner - Staffordshire, Grunnell/Grunwell - Yorkshire, Price Hanmer, Cain - Co Mayo, Pickering - Shropshire, Phillips - Shropshire, Shufflebottom - Staffordshire, Bowker - Gorton, Slater - Oldham

Jo,
I had a similar problem and solved it by viewing the transcription as well as the original image. The transcription gave the address as well (turned out to bie Royal Naval College Osborne IOW).  I know it's extra money   :(  but if you really want to know then the information is there.

See the "Help and Advice" page at www.1911census.co.uk:

Make sure you are signed up to receive our newsletter or keep an eye on our blog at http://blog.1911census.co.uk so you know when the extra images become available."
