1851 Census Occupation Query - Silk Thrasher
« on: Thursday 18 December 08 12:54 GMT (UK) »
Hi

I have found my husbands ancestors on the 1851 Census for Watford and now have a query that I hope sks can help me with.

Emma and Sarah Hunt are listed as what I believe to be Silk Thrashers [am not certain if I have read this correctly] and not knowing what that meant I googled it without any success.

Has any one any idea's?  they can be found at:

HO107/1714 Folio 295 Page 10

Many thanks for taking the time to read this.

Regards

I think that it could it be Silk Throwster - one who twists and spins silk and prepares it for weaving. There is a very interesting piece on Waford Silk Mills by Chris Reynolds on the Genealogy in Herts Website.
