*COMPLETED* HERON - Lurgan area
« on: Thursday 18 December 08 23:36 GMT (UK) »
Hi,
Looking for parents, sibs, ancestors of Eliza Jane Heron b. Oct 22, 1862.  Her mother was apparently a McPherson.
Eliza Jane married Hugh Gracey on Feb. 26, 1882 in Lurgan.  In 1901 Eliza Jane and Hugh Gracey lived at #1 Shillington St. , Portadown.
Any info on the Heron family, or the Gracey family would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

26 Feb 1882 Hugh Gracey married Eliza Jane Heron in Shankill Church of Ireland Lurgan. I cannot find a Heron/McPherson marriage. The most likely is a Heron/ Jenkins marriage. This couple had at least seven children

Looking at the marriages in
www.ancestryireland.com
Eliza Jane Heron's father was called Jacob
You can view and print the whole marriage record for £4
This should give you her father's name, occupation, and at least her address which might give you a clue as to where the family came from.

Cully, Bannister, McConnell, Wallace (Co. Armagh)  Anderson, Ross (Co. Antrim), Gray, Truesdale (Co. Down)
McCormick (Killyleagh and finally Belfast)

Thanks for the replies -

kingskerswell - how do I find the Heron/Jenkins family records?

RosemaryJoan - if I buy a credit, how can I be sure to get the right marriage record?  (I've never used ancestryireland.com before).

I appreciate your help.

Although I haven't paid to look at the record, I have cross referenced the names and dates on Emerald Ancestors and Ancestry Ireland.  I am pretty sure that the Eliza Jane Heron marriage (father Jacob) looks like her.  A lot of Lurgan records are given as Co. Down in Ulster Ancestry, as part of Lurgan is in Co. Down.  The marriage record is also in Armagh Ancestry, and this would cost 5 euros.  Go on - take a chance and let us know what you find! RosemaryJoan,
That explains why my mother-in-law thought her father (Robert Gracey 1884) was born in Portadown, County Down!  I thought it was an error, as Portadown seemed to be in Co. Armagh.
I already know that Eliza Jane Heron and Hugh Gracey were married on Feb. 26, 1882 in Lurgan from the family bible info, and I know that Hugh's father's name was Robert Gracey and that Hugh and Eliza Jane lived in Portadown after they were married.  Now that Eliza Jane's father's name was Jacob Heron, I'm thinking the marriage cert wouldn't give me much new info?   Can you suggest another approach that might give more info?

Portadown IS in Co. Armagh.  So, if you want to follow the Hugh Gracey line we need to find Hugh's date of birth, then his parents marriage and work backwards from that.  What have you got?RosemaryJoan

Okay...here's what I have:
Hugh Gracey was born Feb. 19, 1859 (don't know location).  His father's name was Robert (don't know mother's name).  Hugh Gracey died Feb. 27, 1930, age 71, Shillington St., Portadown.  There was a Thomas Gracey from Ballyhennan (?) present at his death (maybe brother?).
I have a copy of his son, Robert's, birth cert. from 1884.  When Robert was born, the family lived on Bridge St., Portadown, and his father Hugh was a "warper".
I also have a copy of the family's census record from 1901 and they lived on Shillington St., Portadown.  Hugh and Eliza Jane had 10 children at home then.  (Their eldest son, Alexander, was not living with them anymore.)  Hugh was an "Urban Council Officer".
And I have a copy of Robert Gracey and Florence May Nainby's marriage certificate from 1915 in Belfast and Robert's father was Hugh Gracey who was a "Clerk".
The family bible info that I was given shows Eliza Jane Gracey as born Oct. 22, 1862 and died Dec. 22, 1933.
