‘An upright stone near the road, beyond the entrance to the churchyard, bears the surname belonging to a small body of Welsh settlers at Greystones. The name of “
EVANS” is at present the most frequently met with in that village, “DOYLE” being also very common. The third line of the inscription is partially covered with sod. The last two letters of the first line, and the last of the second, are smaller than, and above, the others’:--
“HERE . LIETH . Ye BODY .
OF . THOMAS . EVANs. DECEASD .
SEPr . Ye . 4 . 1731.”
