Hi and back again.

Have you checked Lancashire bmd?  I've had a look and quite a few of your family are on that site.
There is a William Gadd who married a Frances Bowden at St. Saviour's in Salford in 1882.  On the IGI there is a William Gadd born 1793 in Salford - parents John and Sarah.  There is also the Lancashire on-line parish clerk which is quite useful too.

Don't know if any of the above is any use but.......?

By the way, I was born in Ancoats!!!!!   My family didn't live there, I was just there for the occasion so to speak.  I was born in the Salvation Army Nursing home there.  Hey ho.

I remember Druce's shop really well (particularly the sweets department  ;)).  We were only talking about it the other day on the drive to Lane End.  If either of you want any photos taken around the village (or Cadmore End) let me know.

Just to throw another one into the mix - do either of you have William Harold Cutler (known as Harry) in your trees?  He was born 1908 in High Wycombe and lived in High Wycombe all his life.  His parents were William Edward Cutler b.c.1869 and Mary Annie Rogers.  Just thought I'd ask on the off chance??

Hi JLo.  Is the shop that the Druce's used to have still there?   I am going to having a look for the photo of my dad outside the house where he was born and try and post it on here tomorrow (getting a bit late now).  Just wondered if it would jog any memories :-\

The Cutlers I have are Joseph 1839 who married Frances West and their children,
Bessie 1857, Frederick 1859, George 1865, Frances 1867, Edwin 1872, and Lilian 1874.  I think the dates are probably approximate.  I haven't really looked into their history at this moment.

Hi Matt, I think I need some help re the Cutlers   :-[

I asked on GR for a look at the census with Joseph Cutler and Frances and it looks as though they didn't have the above children after all  :o

It seems as though there is Joseph Cutler who married Frances Ann West and they had a daughter Elizabeth born c1869

BUT

There is an Edwin Cutler who married a Frances Ellis (?) in 1857.  They had Clara, Frederick, Alice, Robert, George, Francis, Betsey, Edwin and Lilian.  Father Edwin had died by 1881.

I can't remember how long I have had the Cutler info or where it came from - (I'm much more meticulous these days than I used to be!)   ::)

You mentioned about Joseph's son Frederick but it looks like it may have been Edwin's son  :-\

What do you think   ???

If you see what I mean?  The spelling of 'Francis' is obviously incorrect and that could apply to the 3 year old also I guess.

Yes the shop is still there but is now owned by a large newsagent chain (Martins or Dillons I think).  I'm sure it was Roger Druce who ran the shop when I used to go there.  My Mum lives just outside the village (in between Lane End and Cadmore End) but runs the Lane End WI so knows lots of the 'old folk' as well as having lots of memories of her own.
Somewhere I have got a book with lots of the history of Lane End, I shall have to go and find it to see if any of your Cutlers or Wests are in it.....

Oh yes and just to show what a small world it is - the Druce's used to own my Mum's house before she did (back in the 1960's).
She still sees Roger Druce about quite alot, although he has been in hospital recently as he had a nasty accident while cutting back some trees (not sure exactly what happened but village rumour is that he cut off the branch his ladder was attached to  :-\)

Gosh it IS a small world!    ::)

I will try and have another go at that photo tomorrow. It may just ring a bell with someone.

I hadn't realised that Lane End was quite a complex - it was always spoken of as a cluster of houses..........at the end of a lane!!
