All Saints Habergham
« on: Monday 29 December 08 19:14 GMT (UK) »
:) Hi everyone, I have a question relating to churches in habergham eaves, from my research, I have discovered that many of my ancestors were married.baptized and buried at All Saints, but I am curious as to where those born married or decesed before all saints was built, may have had these things done? My gr gr gr grandparents were married in 1818 and All Saints did not exist then. Also what about those who died after the church yard was closed?

Hi,

Before All Saints it would have probably been the Parish church of Holy Trinity, Habergham Eaves, but that was only founded about 1836, so only built around 10 years earlier.  Prior to this it would have normally been St. Peters Parish Church, Burnley.  However, I wouldn`t rule out St. Leonards in Padiham as a possibility for baptisms.

If they aren`t buried at All Saints then I would expect to find them at Burnley Cemetery which opened in 1856.

Kind regards,
Mo

Hi,

Other churches in the Habergham Eaves area are St. John the Baptist, Gannow Lane, Burnley and St. Matthews Church, Burnley.  I do know that St. John's had a graveyard (but this site has now been redeveloped) and that St. Leonards in Padiham also have a burial ground but many of the headstones are in a dangerous state.
The burial records for the Burnley and Padiham cemeteries are available at Burnley Library.  There are also many Church records available in the Library too.

See also http://www.cemsearch.co.uk/burnley/burnley.html which allows a search of names for persons buried in Burnley Cemetery.

Hope this info may help.

P.S.  You don't say where your 3x grandparents were married in 1818 - this might give clues as to which area they may have lived.

Hi Thank you for the reply, I dont know the church that my 3x's grandparents were married , but I do know that it was in the Burnley area, and that their children were born in Habergham Eaves.
