*Completed* Marriage Records - Campbell 1880's
« on: Friday 02 January 09 16:07 GMT (UK) »
Hi :)

I'm trying to find the marriage record for these people:

James William Campbell
B. Dec qtr 1859, Market Rasen, Lincs.
M. Bet.1881 - 1886

Spouse: Mary Jane ?
B. Abt 1857, Surrey.

I'm hoping I'll be able to find James' wife's maiden name from this, but no matter how much I search I just can't seem to find it and it's driving me scranny, lol!

I have James on the 1881 census, living as an unmarried lodger in Leeds and then again later with his wife and daughter in 1891. The daughter (Lily) was born in abt. 1886, so I'm guessing that the marriage (if they weren't being naughty ;) ) would have happened between 1881-1886, probably in Yorkshire.

I'm sure it's probably just me being daft, but it's been eluding me for weeks, so if anyone could please give me a hand and save me from permanently square eyeballs I'd be extremely grateful!:)

Many thanks, and happy New Year!! :)

Cat

Hi both  :)

I read Mary Jane's birth place as Northamptonshire Maxey rather than Surrey

Hi,

Thanks for that Barbara, look like it could be a really good match..One problem though, I've just found the marriage record for James on Ancestry but when I click to see who else is on the page it doesn't bring up a Mary J Bains. In fact it gives me two men and only one woman... :(

Thanks Tati, I'll have to have another look :)

Tati you're a STAR! Thank-you so much :)

Now all I have to do is find her death (James is showing as a widow by 1901) and I'll be crackin! :)

Strangely, the only mary Jane born 1857 at Maxey on earlier censuses is shown as a Mary Jane Lambert. I have a feeling she's the same girl (with John Lambert probably being her stepfather). Still searching for a clue to support the theory ...

Added: Hmm. Not so sure now. Jane and John are already married in 1851  :P
