I think this is him in 1851 but who his parents were is unclear:

Note - McWhire and McQuire would sound very similar.

Thanks for the info, looking at the list it looks like James and Emma could be his parents, although that would make Emma an old mother.

I wil try this info on familysearch.

He has a different surname to James and Emma! I'd say his mother was one of James's sisters.

Just to add further confusion I have found a John Thomas Maguire 22/09/1847.
It shows on the IGI

It could have been a late registration - Dec Quarter runs from October 1st to Dec 31st - so a 22 Sept birth would fit.

What names does it give for his parents? To save me looking

I see that the mother's name is a Mary, father John.

It's one of those strange Batch numbers with no details, although a C $:-\$

If I were you, I'd risk purchasing the birth certificate - ref as above Reply #14

This will give mother's maiden name and father's occupational details

I don't see a marriage on the IGI. I'll check FreeBMD
