Breakspear - Stanton Harcourt around 1840+
« on: Tuesday 08 February 05 18:58 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to find out where Ann Breakspear or Ann Breakspeare lived in 1861 and where she lived when she was about 9 years old in 1951, I am looking for her family. She was born at Stanton Harcourt.

She may have been called Alice not Ann.

She had a son James Alexander Breakspear born c1868 and she lived in Oxford as Ann Breakspeare with her son in 1881 and in 1891 she was still living in Oxford but called Ann French although she was not married.

She died at St Giles fair in 1892 due to a Merry-go-round accident and Mr John French who she lived with at the time said her name was Alice Breakspear but she is on the 1981 census as Ann Breakspear.

If you can find any information about her I would appriciate it as I am trying to find her family and also tring to find out maybe who James Alexander Breakspear's father was.

Cheers Lisa

To add more confusion to my research I have now received a copy of James Breakspeares and Selina Bridgwaters marriage certificate which was on May 17th 1902 at St Mathews in Oxford.

The certificate says Alexander James Breakspeare age 31 married Selina Bridgwater age 23.

So I guess everyone new him by his middle name James.

Anyway it says that his Father was Henry Breakspeare Deceased but I know of no Henry and can find no trace of Henry on Ancestry.co.uk

So to recap I have found James Breakspear which i guess is my Alexander living with his mother Ann in Oxford in 1881 and the Clacks in 1871.

Ann was living in Oxford during 1871 if this is the correct Ann Breakspeare, and Oxford in 1881 and was called Ann French in 1891 also living in Oxford but unfortunately was killed in 1892 as one of my other posts tells the story.

If anyone can find my Henry and Ann Breakspeare connection or can find a connection with Henry in the Hardwich/Stanton Harcourt, Witney area around 1860's and 1870's this would be great.

I am not ruling out the possibility that Ann was not married and that maybe Henry was a Breakspeare relation but by blood.

Hope to hear from you all soon.

Lisa

Thomas Breakspeare of Stanton Harcourt = Rebecca Ayers Feb 5 1822 Southleigh

do not confuse (like I did) with
Thomas Breakspeare who married Rebecca Harris at North Leigh 30th Dec 1824

I think this is the James Breakspear that appears in the National reg for 1870 witney district

from Stanton Harcourt
baptism 1870 June 5 James s/o William & Elizabeth lab Sutton
burial 1870 June 6 James inf of Sutton

There are no Breakspeare entries for this period in the registers for Hardwick

As you will see not mention of a Henry - the only one I saw was a son of a William & Ann and died young

Not sure if it helps :-\
