DENNISON, William - Shoemaker
« on: Monday 05 January 09 18:00 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for any information on William Dennison / Denisson , who in 1896 is recorded as being a Shoemaker and although his daughters Marriage cert does not state it, i understand that he was in Dublin at that time.  The daughters address was Richmond Terrace in Rathmines but i am sure that this is not his family home, as her husband is also recorded as living at the same address.

Any info or advice is truly appreciated

Regards

Marc

In an attempt to resuscitate this thread, i have uncovered additional info in the hope that it might trigger something.....

William Denison / Dennison was married to Maria Doyle circa 1865 - They had two daughters that i have found on http://www.irishgenealogy.ie/index.html
Lucy Denison 1870 (sponsors James & Margaret Denison)

Maria Denison 1867, (sponsors Richard & Jane Doyle)
both of Georges St (St. Andrews RC Parish) .

Williams address in 1896 was 7th Lock, Grand Canal . which i found on Lucy's wedding cert...

What i don't know is where he come from and where he went as i cannot find a marriage for William & Maria nor can i find them on the 1901 census.

Hi Obbie,
Well spotted - funny you picked that up, i was just on the Glasnevin site and found a record for a William in 1900 , also for MARIA DENISON 1898 age 56..... that would account for them sadly  - oh well.... wheres that fax machine!

if you're very nit-picking, you can work out the addresses of people buried in Glasnevin - by going through the advanced search letter by letter, then every 2-letter combo, etc.
It takes about an hour, and it helps if you know Dublin - I've had some spectacular successes.

for Maria 1898 --
it looks as if the words "terrace", "st", "mary" are contained in the address, as well as "dublin" as far as I can tell
-- there's also "h"

go to the advanced search, then try some likely addresses.
If that doesn't give you a hit, check that "dublin" is in the address.

I then try all the other letters one by one, and make a list of those that give a hit.
e.g. try ... a c e f g h j etc (b d i ln and u are there anyway, in "dublin" usually)
suppose you get hits for ...  b c d e f i l n r s t u
...the bold letters are ones not in "dublin" ... rst is often "str" ... try "street"
... c and f aren't used yet, so I try to combine them .. caf, cef ... fec etc
in this case it was Cuffe Street

you can find the number in the same way
