looking for brobson
« on: Tuesday 06 January 09 21:24 GMT (UK) »
Hi!

I'm trying to track down my 4x great grandfather who moved from Leicestershire at the turn of the 19th century to Perth where he had 2 children ( Robert and Rachael ).

He worked as a frame work knitter and then returned to Leicester some time before the 1841 census.

I can find no mention of his wife/mother of the children or work out why he moved to Scotland when he came from an area swarming with Frame work knitters!

Any help would be gratefully received!

Hi Treegirl - Welcome to Rootchat!

If you could give any more information you have on this family it might help. For instance the full name of your 4xgreat grandfather, his year of birth, the years of birth of his children (a rough estimate even if dates not known), any middle names etc.

Brobson is a very rare name and Scotland's People show no records of that spelling before 1855 when statutory registration began. There are a couple of entries in the census which could be worth investigating. If you go to www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk there is a free surname search on the homepage. This will give you the basic information on what is in the records. The site is pretty self explanatory but if you have any queries there are plenty of experienced rootschatter who will be glad to help. :)

Hope this helps

Thank you for your reply - was rushing to put something up so left out lots of important info!

My 4xg grandfather was Thomas BROBSON who was born aroung 1775 in Leicester. His son, Robert, was born in Perth in 1806 and his daughter, Rach(a)el, also born in Perth around 1807/8.

By the 1841 census they had all returned to Leicester and Thomas and Rachel settled there with Robert enlisting in the army and ending up settling in Falmouth.

Beyond this I have no real information - and a free search on Scotland's people brought up no results....

Any more thoughts???!!

Hi Foxhole!

Wow! A Brobson connection! They are seemingly very rare!! Are you related to Rachael, or Robert? Have you any more information on Thomas? It's very difficult when you get that far back!

Looking forward to hearing from you,

TreeGirl :-)

When Thomas's son, Robert left the army, he became Staff Sgt in charge of the Chelsea Pensioners at Pendennis Castle near Falmouth. One of his wives had 6 children and I am a descendant of Richard Thomas Brobson.
