Anthony, your photos are brilliant and a credit to your skills.

Gerry do you have a layout of Old Dalbeth? How difficult is it to identify specific plots?

HI Camillo,

Sadly no plot plan for Old Dalbeth exists, which is a real pain and what got me started with all the photographs etc in the 1st place as I wanted to locate my GGfathers grave. We are trying to get a lair plan drawn together from the position of the remaining stones but it is a slow process.

Thanks Gerry

What do you think the policy would be in relation to laying down a granite grave marker?

Would it be allowed or is it completely closed?

Hi Camillo,

I honestly don't know, I wouldn't think they would object if the lair could be identified however I would advise you give Sharon a call at the Archdiocese of Glasgow's office and she would be able to tell you.

Hi Boltond,

Welcome to Rootschat. Going by the date of your relation he could be in either of the cemeteries, What I can tell you is that if he is in Old Dalbeth there is no headstone which has survived bearing his name.
The Burial records are now available on Scotland's People and it will tell you his lair number and which section of the cemetery he is in.

Anthony!  Great photos.  Gerry and I are researching the same relatives in Dalbeth - and you're the one that got me started in the first place!  You brought that book over to Toronto for Jackie and I, and I was hooked.  I'll send you a PM.
All the best!

Anne
