Wilson - Leitrim
« on: Friday 09 January 09 05:09 GMT (UK) »
This is what I know:

John Wilson was born in Country Leitrim, Ireland on 24
December 1810, emigrating to Canada in 1828.  He settled in Tilbury
East Township in 1835, dying on 16 August 1887.

I would love to know:

town/parish in Leitrim
Parents/siblings
departure point/arrival point in North America/ship

Thanks!

Hi ctwilson,

The  1796 Flax Growers List shows one person named Wilson in Leitrim

Robert, Cloonclare

I realise that your ancestor emigrated in 1828 but have looked at Griffith's Primary Valuation of Leitrim which took place in 1856 to see the parishes where families named Wilson were living at that point ... Twenty four names are listed ... the figures which I've shown after the parish name show how many Wilson heads of household were in each parish Carrigallen [8], Cloone (6), Clooneclare (6),  Cloonlogher (1), Killasnet (1), Mohill (1) and Rossinver (1).
