SUTTONs in Taunton, Kingston St Mary, Bishops Hull
« on: Friday 09 January 09 17:44 GMT (UK) »
Hi all,
I'm relatively new to this board.  I have several links to Somerset - but am particularly interested in tracing my SUTTON family.

William SUTTON was born in Taunton St James or Kingston St. Mary (from army and census records) about 1782.

William joined the army (40th Regiment of foot) in 1796.  He married Mary CHAPMAN in Kill St. Nicholas, Ireland and had two known daughters.  Eliza, born Lesacca, Spain 1813 and Matilda, born Graincourt, France in 1816.

William retired from the army in 1819 and returned to Taunton.  He was living in Bishops Hull in 1841.  His wife Mary died in 1838 at the Sugarloaf Inn, Bishops Hull.
William remarried Jane WARR(E), and died in 1863 in Bishops Hull .

Matilda married Charles LOCK in 1841.  But I have no idea what happened to the eldest daughter Eliza.  Did she survive and return to Taunton too?  If anyone has any information on here I'd be very grateful.

Likewise, I'd love to find out more about William's birth and parents.  His marriage certificates give his father's name as William, a carpenter, but I know little more.

Many thanks,
Andy

Many thanks Kris and Wozzle,
I notice several siblings of William snr and Mary too - but none of William Jnr, and no burials - so looks like the family moved in and out of the parish within 2 generations.
Onward with my search!
Thanks again,
Cheers,
Andy
