1861 census lookup request
« on: Wednesday 09 February 05 15:31 GMT (UK) »
Hi,
can anyone find the following family in the 1861 census for Upwell.I firstly looked in Norfolk but they couldn't be found. As Upwell is one of those places that seems to yo-yo between the 2 counties I was advised to ask on the Cambs board.

Thomas HOWARD-head-age 64-born Upwell-Ag Lab
Charlotte-wife age 63-born Pentney,Norfolk
George-son-age 26-born Upwell
Joseph-son-age 22-born Upwell
John-son-age 18-born Upwell

In the 1851 census they lived at Small Lode,Upwell.
Trisha. :)

Hi David,
that's the right Charlotte.Elizabeth is her daughter.Thomas was born in Foulden.
Is it possible that you could give me all the household members for that home? The earliest child I have for them was  born in 1864 but that doesn't mean there might not have been earlier ones.Might help me pin down when they were married too.
Many thanks,
Sue. :)

Hi Sue

I wondered if Elizabeth might have been the daughter, although usually I've found that the relationship is described as mother in law rather than boarder.

Thomas Palmer head marr 28 ag lab b Fouden
Elizabeth Palmer wife 24 b Upwell
John Thomas Palmer son 3 b Upwell
Hannah Palmer dau 1 b Upwell

David

HI David,
I agree the terminology is a bit formal for a mother in law.
