Leytonstone parish registers
« on: Saturday 10 January 09 22:19 GMT (UK) »
Does anyone have parish registers for Leytonstone? I'm looking for the birth/baptism of Kate/Katie Donovan c1903 daughter of John and Jane Donovan.

Thanks.

Matt

Was she Catherine known as Kate?  The West Ham registration district covered Leyton

Per freebmd

Births March qtr 1903

Donovan  Kate Annie     Edmonton  3a 647

Births March qtr 1903

Donovan  Catherine     West Ham  4a 429

To look up a baptism for that period you would need to know the name of the church and the approximate date on which she was baptised.  Baptisms could take place weeks/months after a birth

Carlin (Ireland & Liverpool) Doughty & Wright (Liverpool) Dick & Park (Scotland & Liverpool)

Registers for the actual parish church of Leytonstone are definitely held at the Essex Record Office in Chelmsford. It seems to have been where illegitimate babies born in the workhouse nearby were taken to be baptized too. (If they weren't baptized in the workhouse itself).

Hiya

Yep that's the same family. I have that census myself, although I'm still trying to find out what Jane's maiden name was as I can't find a marriage for John and Jane. I could get it from the birth certificate of one of the children, but as John isn't a direct ancestor (I am descended from his elder brother Florance) I haven't got those yet.

Thanks again.

Hi

If ever you do find her maiden name - bear this freebmd entry in mind as there are 3 males but only 2 females on the same page

John Donovan Sept qtr 1894  St George in The East
Volume: 1c  Page: 567

Thanks for that. I've just checked it on FreeBMD though and find 2 male and 2 female names. Did you get your entry from FreeBMD or ancestry? John married Jane.
