JOHN SOLOMON of Swindon and Tisbury

Hello all,

I'm trying to find information on my GG Grandfather, JOHN SOLOMON, born Swindon 11 February 1847.

I believe his father may have been CHRISTOPHER ROBINS SOLOMON and his mother, MARY ROGERS PERRY (or possibly TURNER).

He married Ildica Josephine Trotman of Barbados.

I have checked the 1851 image again but Mary Ann looks more like Percy than Perry

Thanks very much for that speedy reply. I'm constantly amazed by the helpfulness of rootschat subscribers.

So in the '51 census do they not mention the father (head of household)? If not we're going only on John Swindon, 1847 and Mary.

The '81 census has the household with:
M.A. PERRY  U   Female 42   Devizes, Wiltshire, England b.1839    so obviously the Mary who is described as 12 stepdaughter in the '51.

Can you tell me what the 8 and 633 refer to in the Marriage certificate info you've given me?

This could be Mary on the 1841 for Devizes - all born in county

Can you tell me what the 8 and 633 refer to in the Marriage certificate info you've given me?

They are the volume and page number which are needed if you decide to buy a copy of the certificate

Marriages are registered in the quarter in which the event occurred.  If they married in October 1844 then that would appear in the December quarter of 1844
