Thank you all so much. That's absolutely wonderful. I've been knitting away at this branch for ages until now. Brilliant.
You've given me so much information I still haven't finished absorbing and collating it all - but I've made more than a start.
It might just interest you to know that John (my GG grandfather), like his father before him, worked for the government and travelled all over the place. He was a Commissary of Taxation, and his ten children were born in all corners of the globe, one of them even first seeing the light of day at sea - and only eleven months after his elder brother was born! There were, in fact, only 14 years between first and last (10th) baby, and somewhere along the his wife also found the time to miscarry twins. Below is a list of their children and where and when they were born.
· Ethel Brandford – Tisbury, Wilts, England – 1873
· Alys Millicent – Tisbury, Wilts, England - 1875
· Harry Hamilton – Barbados – Feb 1877
· Eustace Hazledon – HMS “Eider” (in sight of Barbados) – Dec 1877
· Mable Louise – Leguan Island, Essequibo River, British Guiana – 1879
· Percy Christopher Andrew – Barbados (lived only 5 hours) – 1881
· Emily Beatrice – Reading, England - 1882
· Hubert Fitzgerald – Barbados – 1884
· Edith Allison – Demerara, British Guiana – 1885
· Gerald Stanley – London, England - 1887
Thanks again
Brian
