Another Londonderry native who migrated to and died in the Province of New Brunswick, Canada.
John Andrews whose death appears in this morning's 'Telegraph' was born in 1787 at Coleraine, County Derry, Ireland and was consequently in his 91st year. During the early part of the present century, Mr. Andrews obeyed the summons to take up arms and joined the 50th Regiment of the Line. He soon after found himself on the Peninsula under Lord Wellington and participated in the battles of Toulouse, Talavers, Salamanca and several other prominent engagements. He was also one of the storming party at the seige of Badajos. Mr. Andrews emigrated to this country in 1832 and was a resident of Portland (St. John) for upwards of 30 years. His descendants now living comprise 8 sons, 1 daughter, 44 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren. In 1811 he became a member of the Orange Institution and on reaching this city in 1832 joined the ranks of No. 3 Lodge. The Orange Lodges of the city, Portland and Carleton are summoned to attend the funeral of Mr. Andrews which is to take place Tuesday [The Daily Telegraph, Saint John, NB, Canada. 9 September 1878].
