Quakers and wills
« on: Monday 12 January 09 23:04 GMT (UK) »
The family I'm researching were Quakers, although the last of the line was buried in an Anglican church in 1813.  What has surprised me is that none of the family or their Quaker connections left wills.  Richard, who died in 1808, caused problems by dying intestate and then his sister also died intestate 5 years later, and caused a whole string of court cases.  It struck me that, because Quakers don't swear oaths, there could be an aversion to wills, but I can't find anything to back this up.  Is there anything in this, or am I mistaken?

I copied and pasted your subject "Quakers and wills" to google and came up with about 321,000 pages (in English). I haven't read them all yet  ;D

Hopefully (if you too google) this link will come up for you, it is quite a nice intro to the background.

no no no no no yes no, we all post too quickly and as I'm feeling in quite a good mood today I thought I'd just tease you along a little for not having looked at google first (or for living in a google-free zone). I'm glad you took it as tongue in cheek, just as intended.  ;)
