1881  (earlier ed. of the same directory), Valentia is included with Caherciveen

Catherine, John , Michael and Michael Shea all publicans
Bartholomew O'Shea, tailor
Bridget O'Shea , china &c dealer
Jeremiah O'Shea, grocer
Michael Shea, butcher, Valentia
Michael Shea , blacksmith, Valentia
William Shea , draper

going back a little further to 1870

Bartholomew Shea , tailor, Cahirciveen
Martin Shea, public house, Cahirciveen

I wonder if this Bartholomew the Tailor is the grandfather of the Bartholomew born in 1884 you mentioned ?

the O seems to drop on and off every so often..

my grandfather is another Bartholomew born in 1884 - other end of the country! - Wicklow

I just registered so hope I don't offend anyone.  I am looking for a James Bartholomew Shea who was a sailor in county Kerry Ireland, according to my now deceased aunt.  he married Catherine O'Neil and they had one daughter after moving to Wales.  The daughter was born in 1865, so James B Shea might have been born around 1830? He and his wife, Catherine, died in Wales around 1870?
