If anyone wants to make some surname guesses on the royal household use census reference RD5 SD2 ED35. The king's surname is King George:) I wonder who else is there?

Paul

I found these:

"H M QUEEN MARY", aged 43;
"EDWARD PRINCE OF WALES", AKA Edward VIII, aged 16;
"PRINCE ALBERT OF GREAT BRITAIN IRELAND", AKA King George VI, aged 15;
"PRINCE JOHN OF GREAT BRITAIN IRELAND", aged 5 (The hidden prince)

Typing in "Prince" or "Queen" into the surname field is sufficient to find all these. I cannot find George V's other three children at that address, presumably they were away at school somewhere?

Here's a great way to save money - have all your ancestors in the North or Wales.
Bell, Salter, Street - Devon, Middlesbrough.
Lickess- North Yorkshire, Middlesbrough.
Etherington - North Yorks and Durham.
Barker- North Yorks
Crooks- Durham
Forster- North Yorks/Durham
Newsam, Pattison, Proud - North Yorks.
Timothy, Griffiths, Jones - South Wales

I'm not sure if I'm stating the obvious, but you can view a transcript of the census return for a lower price, so unless you're quite sure that you have the right family, it might be worth doing that first.  I've suggested to FindMyPast that the transcript cost should be removed or discounted if the census image is subsequently purchased.

It's notable that the costs for other censuses on FindMyPast are as follows:

Transcription: 3 credits (10 credits for 1911)
Census image: 3 credits (30 credits for 1911)

Surely the PAYG costs will come down at the same point they include 1911 in FindMyPast? They certainly ought to reduce the transcription view cost for 1911 to 3 credits, since it offers nothing more than transcriptions for other censuses. Maybe the image cost will be more since you get more images, but certainly not as much as 10 times more.

I'm determined to hang on a few months and wait for the prices to go down. This is a credit crunch after all!

The costs won't come down until the costs of photographing, digitising, transcribing, indexing and hosting the census pages have been recouped, and some profit made on the investment.  The 1911 census was not microfilmed by the National Archives, so everything has had to be photographed from scratch, and that plus the fact that individual returns have been made available for the first time have pushed the costs of hosting this one up higher than any of the others.  If you're waiting for the costs to come down, don't hold your breath  :)

Search with no surname.
