My BALDOCK family is from East Kent. I have traced back to the late 1500s, to the Charing/Lenham area via Womenswold and Pluckley.
I am currently researching around 4 lines, but none of them yet link to any BALDOCK in Sussex.
Has anyone come across a Kent link yet?

Hi Steve - great site :-)

I have a couple of Kentish Baldock references that I've picked up over time, but only one directly linked to my tree - and sadly not linked to the Sussex branch at all as far as I can see.

Elizabeth Baldock married Richard Amos / Amis in Chilham 1679 and died 1693.

I have the Amos descent but nothing on how Elizabeth fits into a wider picture...

Mike, thanks for the comments. Interested in Elizabeth - was she from Chilham? I'm researching a Chilham/Chartham line which I have yet to link up, but only have back to a Jeremiah in the mid-1700s.

Have found an IGI record for a Thomas Baldock C1635 married to Alice Manser who had a family in Wadhurst, including a Thomas Baldock born 1673 who could possibly be the one I'm looking for.

Lewes records office have found a marriage record for Thomas to an Elizabeth Manser in 1661 but the birth records of all the children show the mother as Alice.

They have also found a marriage between Thomas and Susanna Manser in1670 and birth records for a Thomas born 1677 who could also be the one I'm looking for. This can't be a second marriage looking at the dates the children were born so must be just a coincience.

Has anyone else come across this family or have any details of them that may help.

Thanks,

Alan

Hi Alan

I'm guessing you're trying to see if the Thomas Baldock who married Ann Frie in Withyam 1727 links paternally to the Thomas Baldock who married Elizabeth Loofe in Wadhurst 1702 and finally onto the Thomas Baldock who married Alice Manser?

I have the same possibilities sketched out from IGI refs and other scraps but cannot get anything definite either :(

Another Baldock / Manser link is Lydia Baldock who married James Manser in Wadhurst 1815 but that's way too late to help!

Thanks Mike,

Lewes records office have confirmed that Thomas and Elizabeth Loofe were the parents of Thomas than married Ann Frie. Unfortunately they were unable to confirm Thomas seniors parents and the information that they did come up with was very confusing like the marriage to Elizabeth Manser but no marriage to Alice despite the children showing Alice as mother?

Might have to take a trip to Wadhurst and wander around in the cemetry.

Will let you know if I find any useful graves, if I don't get arrested, ha ha.

Hi Mike,

Hope you're still watching for posts.

Not sure how far you have got with Robert and Susan but have just come across a clue for you.
My Thomas who we suspect to be the father of Robert senior was shown as "old late of Townrow"
on his death record on the Sussex family history site. This would be a connection with your Robert and Susan who I believe you said died in Town Row.

Hope this helps,

Alan

Hi Alan

Many thanks for that :) Been away for a bit so only just found this!

Which Sussex family history site is it? Do you have a year?

Thanks
Mike
