Hi SooCat

Can you check if you can access the 1871/1881/1891 censuses from that link - see below

Hi Gadget

I usually put the link to these posts - whether they bother to look at them is another matter!!

Although I can get in to Ancestry using my link above - If I select either the 1871/81/91 English census - I get the Check Back sign.  Last night - I had this problem with the 1871 but all others were ok

One of my main frustrations with Ancestry for some time now has been this:

I type in a christian name but nothing appears at that time and the christian name box stays blank

I then move over to the surname box and as I am typing in the surname - lo and behold - the christian name appears in the christian name box.

I am a "2 finger typist" so not that speedy but it's as though it's 10 steps behind me

This is the only way I can search on anything from the laptop:

http://www.ancestry.co.uk/search/rectype/advanced.aspx

going direct to the search page produces the dreaded page.  I don't have the problems with the name boxes and I do tend to type quite quickly (mistakes and all  ;D  )

I have world de luxe so will try .com and .com.au

That happens to me a lot as well Carole - what you type appears in a whoosh after 20 seconds   :o

Hi Gadget

That link doesn't work for me  - I'm using a desktop pc though - not a laptop.

Hi Mum44

Thanks for that - it's reassuring to know that somebody else is having the same problem.  I have a newish pc - less than a year old - and you start to get paranoid that it's a problem with the PC

Hi Koromo - thank you for that link - we can now keep an eye on things

links to a message board, on which the latest post is:-

The development teams are still working on the root cause of the downtime.

For the latest progress on this work, keep an eye on the Ancestry blog: http://blogs.ancestry.com

Again we are very sorry about this inconvenience, and I can assure you this issue is top priority for everyone in the company.

It's crazy, but whilst I've been getting the Check back soon message all day on my usual access, after I'd checked the Beds message board on Rootsweb at http://boards.ancestry.co.uk/localities.britisles.england.bdf.general/mb.ashx out of curiosity I clicked on the Search button.

It works perfectly!
