« on: Tuesday 13 January 09 18:15 GMT (UK) »
Does anyone know when the 1911 will be available on ancestry? I have a few surnames that get mangled during transcription and i cant find the people im looking for using the search available at the moment.
Thanks

Hi Mafric

I e-mailed them last week and this is the response I got

Thank you for your email.

We don't currently have plans to purchase the 1911 census early. We are currently focusing on sourcing historical records that go further back in history and will soon be launching the London Metropolitan Archives collection, which includes pre-1837 parish registers.

I gather that when the rush dies down and people are less "willing" to pay 1911census.co prices, it will become available on Findmypast as part of the standard package.  After that it will become available for other sites to purchase, but I doubt much will happen before 2012.

I agree - I doubt whether you'll see it on subscription anywhere (including FindMyPast) until 2011.  I think Brightsolid/FindMyPast would insist on at least a couple of years of exclusivity before they let anyone else near it.  This will have been written into the contract between Brightsolid and the National Archives.

RIP 1949-10th January 2013

Best Wishes,  Nick.

The SoG seems to think that the exclusive licence lasts only six months (albeit from the "final" content launch):
