COOPERS in Henlow, beds
« on: Wednesday 14 January 09 22:34 GMT (UK) »
Hello everyone.

I've been looking at my family tree, and have the name of a great-great grandmother called Kitty Cooper  who was born in Henlow, Bedforshire.
This appears to correct as I have a great aunt with the same christian name.

I have noticed the mayflower passenger list, and listed is a Cooper (maiden name).
Are there any henlow Coopers out there who can shed any light on this?

many Thanks

HAve you more info<

Like are the dates of Gr-Gr  grandma commensurate with a Mayflower passage?
A Name out of time/context does not confirm/deny any possible connection...

Hi, and welcome to Rootschat

I am a Cooper born in Henlow, and have just about all the Henlow Coopers in my tree. Most, but not all, are connected to the Cooper/Tilley/Sampson families from Henlow who were on the Mayflower.

I have a Kitty Cooper born 7 July 1841 at Henlow who married Frederick Harris and emigrated to Michigan.  She was the sister of my gg grandfather

Apart from Kitty and the Mayflower families the rest of the Coopers were not exactly upwardly mobile, as they lived in Henlow and before that in adjoining Arlesey from c1450

Is this your Kitty Cooper? She's the only Kitty I have who was born in Henlow. But I've seen your post on the Beds board and am not certain if Kitty was the wife of William, so her maiden name wouldn't have been Cooper

I'll give more details, and hopefully, the kind people with fuller trees will know if I have any connections.  Just to clarify something, Through finding a Cooper in Henlow, it has taken me to the Mayflower website.  This chronologically is about 200 year before any of my lot are born, so any connection to the Mayflower is further back then I can trace, at the moment.

right, here hoes:

my great grandma was Ruth West. (born in Clifton, Bedfordshire)

Her parents were frank West and Kitty Cooper.  (born in Henlow)
I have 4 children listed: Ruth (my gg), Agnes, William  and Lilian.

Kitty Cooper (I have a year of birth, which I will use to authenticate information) was born in Henlow.

Her parents were William & Elizabeth Cooper (I also have a birth year for William) had 4 children listed according to my list.

Kitty Cooper (My great-great grandmother)
Matilda Cooper
Ruth Cooper
Agnes Cooper

I have birth years for all of these descendants as I have found their details on the various census records.

Am I reading this right??
You are not telling us Kitty cooper's year-of-birth because YOU want to use it to check our supplied info?

Not a chance.

This is a genuine post.  If I hopefully receive information, then I can declare that My info is very wrong.  What if I have bad information here in front of me.

i only want information from people who know more than me.

If you give me info, what if I have the wrong family?

That's all.  I'm sure that all of your information is 100% spot-on.
i'm new to this forum.

as you can see, this is a genuine request.

In response to Bedfordshireboy.

I really don't think that I have the same Kitty Cooper as you.
I have the date 1872.

i'll have to drag all my old printouts.  I did this "family-tree stuff" a couple of years ago..make sure my dates are correct.

many Thanks

The way these boards work is that you tell us what you know, with a request (to find parents, or marriage or whatever).

Giving a list of names with no dates means that we have to go back to basics before we can even begin to try to help you. It doesn't work that way.

I have William Cooper born Dec 1850 at Henlow married Elizabeth Daniel christened 29 Nov 1846 at Henlow, in the Sept quarter 1870 with the four children you mention, taken from the 1881 census.

This Cooper line doesn't connect to the Mayflower Coopers, which is my line

If you confirm that this is your family I'll post the two earlier generations which is where I fizzle out as I don't know where this line came from. It wasn't Henlow

This is definitely not the Kitty Cooper b 1841 who emigrated.

I hadn't followed Kitty (Kate), Matilda, Ruth and Agnes as they are pretty peripheral - Kitty was my second cousin three times removed! But I have traced the Daniel and other female lines back
