Mary Wall Hassall,Greys Lodge, Eastbourne Jly 1930
« on: Wednesday 14 January 09 22:57 GMT (UK) »
Hi,
I'm told that ancestry lists Mary Wall Hassall bn 1876 Romsey, Hampshire (possibly with her son Joseph) as arriving by ship from La Plata, Argentina? in Jly 1930, giving an address  at Greys Lodge, Borough Lane, Eastbourne aged 54.
Is it possible to know who was living at that address, perhaps from the electoral rolls?
   Many thanks,
 Kay

Eastbourne Library has Kelly's directory for that period
http://www.eastbourne.gov.uk/eastbourne/history/family-history/local-resources/?entryid2=14745
fee based but 1st 30 mins is free so shouldn't cost you. Pete

Kay,
I have the 1930 Kelly's Directory on CD.  I took a look for Greys Lodge but was unable to find it in the directory.  One challenge with the Kelly's is that they often contain alphabetical lists of people throughout the county.  It can be difficult to look for a specific place.

Thank you Mark, she was an Allsop originally if that's any help, but we don't have much idea otherwise.
Your efforts are much appreciated,
Kay

Hi, Mark, this is off topic, but I just joined RootsChat and don't know any other way to contact you since I can't send a PM.  You and I must be kin in at least 2 lines: Roods/Roads/Rhodes of Hailsham and Verrall.  My Roods/Roads were in Heathfield, and I have data on them from 1432 to 1765.  They owned Foords in that parish.  My Verralls were in Lindfield, usually spelled it Fairhall, and I have them from 1390 to 1718.
